After graduating with a BSN Degree from the U of MN School of Nursing, Brigetta Johnson moved to Seattle in 1987 to begin her new career.

She quickly got hooked on playing outside in the Pacific Northwest. From white water kayaking to snowboarding, her free time was devoted to enjoying all her beautiful surroundings had to offer.

But, she just couldn't continue to take from the environment without giving back, so watershed protection groups became her volunteer interest of choice. Some of the groups she has volunteered with over the years include: Washington Rivers Council, Columbia River United and Bainbridge Island Watershed Council.

In 1990, a personal experience with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity turned Brigetta's attention to the importance of indoor air quality, healthy homes and alternative healthcare. Her long held interests in environmental protection and energy efficient homes, which had begun in the 1980's in Minnesota, naturally combined with her new interests in healthy homes and sustainable living.

Soon, vacations to wind farms, alternative energy festivals, self study in green building and low impact development became a significant passion in Brigetta's life. So, when the opportunity came up to quit nursing and do a green remodeling project of her own with her husband to be, she dove right in! For the next year and a half, she immersed herself in the hands on, green remodeling project of their north Seattle home. The process involved learning a list of new skills and utilized many of the green home principles and materials she had spent years learning. Officially completed, the beautiful home was sold in 2003.

Since her new husband worked on Bainbridge Island, the choice was easy. The newlyweds decided to move across the water, to become islanders in Kitsap County. Unable to find the green home of their dreams, they found a home suitable for another custom remodeling project. Again, with many green principles and materials involved, the project reached completion in the spring of 2004.

Responsible development and conservation of the Kitsap Peninsula was an obvious priority for Brigetta. Her next step stemmed from a recognition that green home education and promotion of the principles of sustainable land use and low impact development in the field of real estate was sorely needed. So, she earned her real estate license and soon after, found a home with GreenWorks Realty.

Soon after she settled in at GreenWorks, she was contacted to be a guest on one of the premier episodes of the new cable TV channel; Planet Green's show called Renovation Nation with host Steve Thomas. Located on Bainbridge island, the subject of the show was the first Net Zero Energy, LEED Gold certified home in the state of Washington developed by Rollingbay Land Company. Brigetta then went on to be the primary listing agent of this progressive, residential project, and sold it in the fall of 2008, despite a drastic downturn in the economy.

Today, Brigetta is enjoying life on the Olympic Peninsula with her husband and beloved pets. She hopes to inspire other local agents to have a sense of professional responsibility as she continues to do her part to promote a healthier planet one property at a time.
